Hotels (Organic Law and Civil Code)

Price: Each room price has to be opened to the public. An official form should include the price of accommodation, food and other services. Prices have to be easily found in accommodation units and at the reception desk.

Robbery: in case of robbery you should know that not all hotels compensate for damages. Only some five star hotels offer safeties after signing a value statement which has to be signed by both parties.

The deposit and care of objects in hotel safeties is ruled by the former Civil Code Legislation for the deposit contract articles 1731 and 1784. These articles state that the building owner should be responsible for the traveller’s deposit only if all measures on care and surveillance had been taken. However, these measures do not involve act of God and armed robbery cases.

In case of robbery; if the robbery has taken place in a hotel room:

  • If you do not find evidence, you need to ask for the obligatory forms in all hotels. If on the contrary you find evidence, you can ask for compensation for damages. If things have been stolen from a safety it is possible to ask for responsibilities to the hotel.
  • If it is an armed robbery you should ask the hotel if they have a multirisk insurance and then you have to communicate the robbery to the insurance company.

In all cases we recommend to denounce to the police.
